Working with Marcus Theatres has been a very good opportunity to learn different design esthetics and workflow. The challenge with freelance is understanding the current look of any campaign or company. Fonts, image treatment, and placement are all part of the core design style of any business.

While working with a small company may allow for more exploration and intimately more risks. A established company, especially one in business for 75 years, has ways of doing things that may not blow the socks off of their customers, but are rooted in consistency. There are still opportunities to enhance the usual by adding a few gradients, outlines, and drop shadows.

Fonts are also a great way to add interest into any design work, but they are not without complications. Who owns the fonts? Does a client want to pay for a font? In most cases this can be overwhelming and a font is usually chosen from the Adobe font library or one of the many free font sites. ( Be sure to follow all incense requirements. Nothing will piss a client off more than future lawsuits. ) I try in every design to create something that is more than junk. I would like the end user to be educated and entertained at the same time. It's possible, but requires a bit more work.
